Thank you for being a mentor! This is a critical role in the growth of your mentee within our Mentored Ministry Program at Westminster! This webpage is your quick reference guide for the completion of a single module with your mentee. It's a one-stop location to house the documentation you will need.
If you have any questions or feedback about this program, we would love to hear from you! Please email support@wts.edu.
Getting Started
Step 1: Familiarize yourself with our Mentor Guide
Step 2: Review the document ‘Key Qualities for Effective Ministry
In most cases, your mentee should have reflected on this document while
taking the class PT 111 Introduction to Pastoral Ministry. If he or she has
their written reflections accessible, ask for these as a reference point for your
orientation meeting.
Step 3: Hold an orientation meeting with your mentee
- Outline expectations, discuss responsibilities, and review any available self-
- reflection on the “Key Qualities.”
- If you are meeting for the first time, make an overall plan by identifying which
- four modules to complete and when. Descriptions of modules are available in
- the Module Details documents.
- Download and sign the Mentorship Agreement with your mentee*
- Determine which module will be completed in this current term.
- Download and sign the Learning Agreement*
*These documents will be handed in by your mentee.
Weekly Mentoring
Meet with your mentee for at least one hour per week for the duration of the module to
provide instruction and feedback as they fulfill their module requirements.
- Provide feedback with your Learning Agreement and goals in mind
- Retain notes from these meetings for reference as you come to write your final
- evaluation
- In your conversations, revisit the following questions:
- Does your mentee exercise leadership qualities? Do they exemplify
- servanthood?
- Does your mentee demonstrate competency in practical ministry skills?
- What does he/she do well? What are his/her areas for growth?
- Is a sharp sense of God’s call present? How might your mentee’s strengths
- and weaknesses help discern areas of God’s call?
- How does your mentee handle positive and constructive feedback?
Provide feedback using the Feedback Forms to help structure your feedback
during events like your mentee’s sermon or a counseling visit.
Closing Week
Step 1: Complete your final evaluation
Step 2: Meet with your mentee to close the mentoring period
- Prior to meeting with the student, please complete the Final Mentor Evaluation.
- Reflect on their accomplishments, challenges, and progress toward goals
- Together. Ask the student what they will remember most about this period and
- Where they believe challenges lie ahead.
- Identify the different types of support they may need in the future.
- Discuss whether the relationship will continue informally and how that will be
- Implemented.
- Express thanks, encouragement, and the Lord’s blessing on them.
Step 3: Download the final evaluation form, fill it out, and send it to lxadmin@wts.edu
Note: Your evaluation is confidential and will only be shared with the current
instructor of the mentored ministry seminar as well as online team members for the
purpose of administering the module.
